Rain, Shine and Good Vibes

A photo essay of mesmerising Melbourne.

Melbourne city on a rainy day from my hotel room

After years of dreaming about walking the streets of Melbourne, I finally made it!

This time, I had the opportunity to stay at a hotel, which provided a completely new experience for me, as I usually stay with family when visiting Melbourne.

On my way to explore the city on public transport

The hotel in St. Kilda, the seaside suburb just six kilometers from the Central Business District, was the perfect spot for my 7-day visit. I picked up a myki card and took the tram into the city to start off my highly-anticipated Melbourne adventure.

The iconic Flinders St. Station from a different angle

My first stop was the iconic Flinders Street Station, the oldest train station in Australia. Confession: every time I daydreamed about visiting Melbourne, I would imagine admiring the stunning architecture of this beautiful building, which was completed in 1910. Rain, shine, or hail, this station never disappoints and captures the Melbourne vibe 100%.

Melbourne CBD: The perfect mix of modern and history

One of my favourite things to do in this world is walk around the streets of Melbourne’s CBD. There’s so much to take in—from the people and stunning architecture to the coffee scents and street performers. Melbourne gives off a fun, cool, and free vibe. Love it!

The gorgeous view of Southbank and the Yarra River

Another must-visit spot for me is the view of South Bank and the Yarra River. It’s one of the most popular spots in the city (and for good reason!). I can’t stress enough how relaxing and peaceful it is to just sit here, soak in the breeze, and enjoy the calming views.

Finally got to see the famous Brighton Bathing Boxes on this trip

My seven-day trip to Melbourne flew by. I managed to do a bit of shopping, catch up with some friends and family, and enjoy the sights around the city. I also had the chance to visit the Brighton Bathing Boxes, which are made up of 93 colourful beach huts on Dendy Street Beach in the suburb of Brighton. After seeing so many photos and videos of this spot, it was amazing to experience it in person. A word of caution for those taking the train to Brighton Beach Station: there’s quite a bit of walking involved, but the views you get along the way are well worth it.

I’m both happy and grateful to have finally visited Australia after so many years, and I can’t wait to return to this beautiful country, “my second home” again soon!

Good writeup, Anu. Brings back memories of the few visits I had to Melbourne. Was expecting some mention of Victoria Street Market, though ! One of my fav places in Melbourne. 😁

Thank you Joe, glad you liked it. I didn’t mention Victoria St Market because I didn’t go there this time around. 😆
