Last year, I had the opportunity to speak to one of Malaysia’s talented dancers, Rathimalar Govindarajoo. I remember our interview at Old Town Kopitiam at Bangsar LRT and how candid she was about the struggles and challenges she faced as a dancer-choreographer-teacher in Malaysia. I couldn’t help but admire her ability to get past her difficult moments and ‘bloom’ on stage and off. Today, Rathi continues to create and perform, while inspiring those who follow her.
