Stripes of Glory for Eternity

A Little Ode to My Favourite Flag on Malaysia’s 68th Independence Day.

Fluttering in the Malaysian breeze
Bringing my heart a gentle peace
Red, white, yellow, and blue, dazzle me
The colours of my destiny 

Celebrated as a symbol of the country
A marvel of unique geometry
For me, there’s no cause for mystery
The Jalur Gemilang is pure poetry

14 red and white stripes, of bravery and purity
A yellow crescent, evoking Islamic divinity
Our 14-pointed star, a symbol of solidarity
And the blue canton, an echo of unity

On September 16, nineteen sixty-three
Stripes of Glory, changed lives for eternity
A nation awakened on a day of serenity 
Kindred lands joined together in similarity

My love for the Malaysian flag, I declare
Those close to me are surely aware
And should life take me elsewhere
My pledge remains true, this I swear

Malaysia, you’re a treasure trove of possibilities
Let go, the storms of flickering sensibilities
Embrace strength in our myriad abilities
Happiness dwells in the rainbow of infinities.
