Reminiscing about my first love this Valentine’s Day.

Friends believe they know my affinity
But their truth, a far cry from reality
Memories carved with pure clarity
My first love, I’ll remember for eternity
They say it was the boy next door
In class, his jokes often caused an uproar
True, his humour, I once used to adore
But he was not the one my heart raced for
A teenager when Cupid first struck me
Nearly sixteen, figuring out who to be
Like a beautiful day out by the sea
Waves of joy washed over me, I felt free
It began with a tinge of excitement
And soon transformed into pure amazement
Our meetings were in perfect alignment
I couldn’t wait for our next appointment
Time stood still, I was hypnotised
Spending time together, I capitalised
Smitten, I was mesmerised
Lost myself yet felt recognised
Suddenly, life was for celebrating
My days became captivating
Finally, there was no need for waiting
Joy! I had discovered my love for writing
Just like a long-awaited holiday
An ice-cream sundae on a sunny day
Writing is much more than wordplay
A gift from above I’ll treasure, come what may.
