The first-ever video game I played was Pac-Man. ππππ β©β
It was 1985, and I was nine. We didn’t have a computer at home yet, but my dad wanted me to learn how to use one. So he enrolled me in weekly computer classes at school. I admit, I didn’t really like the computer classes then. But I always looked forward to the last 10 minutes of class, when the teacher would let us play games.
And Pac-Man was the game I would always choose to play.
It was such a joy to use the directional keys on the keyboard to direct the yellow character, a.k.a Pac-Man through the maze, eating dots while avoiding ghosts so I wouldn’t lose a life. Oh yes, you could also eat the four flashing energisers to turn the ghosts blue and eat them. I didn’t know it then, but the ghosts were called Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde, and each had their own personality.
Those 10 precious minutes at the end of class made my day.Β
